Transfer Bonds
A transfer bond is required when a defendant is in custody in another jurisdiction, whether it is another county or another state. We work in conjunction with our Insurance Company and an agent in the jurisdiction where the defendant is being held. The process for the indemnitor (signer) is much the same as a local bond; however additional fees may be charged. These extra fees are given to the agent that posts the bond in the jurisdiction where the defendant is being held. The amount of the fees vary depending on the jurisdiction of the defendant, the number of bonds that need to be posted, and how far the agent needs to travel to post the bond. Some states have jail fees, posting fees, and other fees that need to be paid when the bond is posted.
Please be advised that there are laws in four states that do not allow private bail for profit, meaning there are no bail bondsmen in those states. Those states are Illinois, Wisconsin, Kentucky, and Oregon.
